I concentrate on compressing outsized stories onto a two-dimensional plane. Signs, symbols, ancient and iconic art, emojis, and advertisements evolve through juxtaposition and materiality beyond their familiar associations. Many images captured in weathervanes are stereotypes relating to some historic or colonial notion—they carry both nostalgia and a sense of horror. I imagined weathervanes coming to life, calling each other over the vast space of sky, freeing themselves from their moorings and historical associations to develop new narratives—perhaps ambiguous and subversive. Maybe even to escape in the wind.
