Planthouse is pleased to present Bienvenidos by Martin Mazorra, a reduction woodcut and letterpress print published on the occasion of the reopening of the gallery and New York City in the fall of 2021.

Monarch butterflies are symbolic of freedom of movement and transformation. They defy borders with their annual 3000-mile migration across the continent to Mexico and southern California in September and October and northeast in the spring. Milkweed is the host plant for the Monarch. This unassuming plant is the single source of nourishment for Monarch caterpillars. Without it, they cannot survive. This print reflects on this interconnectedness and invites others to question human imposed restrictions on the flourishing of natural phenomena.
