Rachel Ostrow

Rachel Ostrow (1977) is a Brooklyn-based painter and printmaker. Ostrow’s paintings use movement and light to explore space and form, and skirt the line between abstraction and representation. Although her works are ambiguous, they feel recognizable, familiar, and/or iconic. By hinting at the identifiable yet remaining elusive, the works use abstraction to be suggestive and to engage the viewer’s imagination. Ostrow’s process is physical, improvisational, and playful; she paints with a squeegee, and unearths images by pushing around layers of transparent paint.
